Fashion advice, whether conservative or radical, is clear on one solid point: buy a couple plain easy-to-match pieces and then accessorize! Accessories are the best way to get something new in your closet without breaking the bank. They complete an outfit and can make the same boring pants and shirt look classy and put-together. The easiest accessory to wear is the silk scarf. Fashionable in both cold weather and warm weather, the slik scarf is a unique item that lets you safely play with bright colors and wild patterns. On the flip side, a beige neutral shade can subtly tone things down. Need some hints?

1. Wear it long and loose.

This look is best with something tight underneath. Pair skinny dreams with a long, skinny scarf wrapped once around your neck. Let the ends dangle in front of you. When you walk, they'll blow to the sides dramatically and draw some attention.

2. Wear it knotted.

Here's an idea: take your long scarf from before. Wrap it around your neck once and then knot it immediately beneath your throat. Knot it again, and again, in a chain that drops down like a fancy necklace. It's the best way to "make" a piece of new jewelry without spending any more money.

3. Wear it doubled over.

This is a creative way to tie your scarf. Take it and make the two loose ends meet up, then dangle the middle. Swing the silk scarf over your shoulders, still folded in half, and pull the two loose ends through the loop. Now you have a fancy little knot where the ends can hang like a necklace!

4. Wear it as a headscarf with sunglasses.

This Hollywood style never goes out of fashion. If you've having a bad hair day, there's a way to hide it and look classy as anything while doing it. Put on your oversized shades, wrap the silk scarf over your hair until it nearly touches the sunglasses, and you're in business. Complete the outfit with heels, and you're just ready to rock any social situation. I'm thinking a road trip...

5. Wear it as a belt.

This is an awesome way to wear a silk scarf in springs. Lighten up a pair of dark denim jeans with a flowery and bright scarf tucked through the belt bands. Tie it in front or at the side. Alternatively, you can let them hang loose at the side. Don't do at the back though- you get a very unflattering tail effect. As long as you avoid that, however, you can't mess this look up.

6. Wear it as a bandana.

Check this out for a lazy day. Say your hair is so-so and definitely not great in the front. Tie the silk scarf in a bandana shape to hide the bad parts and show off your volume in the back. It works best for a weekend, like a Sunday afternoon where you want to relax and show off your natural beauty.

7. Wear it with one end flipped back.

This is a la French films. Wrap the scarf around your neck once, then halfway again. That way, an end dangles down your front shoulder on one side and down your back side on the other. I love the look best with a skinnier scarf.

8. Wear it with BOTH ends flipped back.

The girl who first made both ends flipping back look cool is Karen Gillan from Doctor Who. Check out the episode of Vincent and the Doctor to see how she rocks a chunky red scarf with both ends trailing over either shoulder.

9. Wear it tied around the waist of a shirt or skirt.

You've been using belts to emphasize your waist. Why stop there? A scarf is unique in that it can be tied as tightly or loosely as you want. You have control over your waist size- enjoy it!

10. Wear it cowl-style.

On a freezing cold day, get a silk scarf in a dramatic pattern and wrap it around and around your neck until only the ends are left. Tuck them into the sides. Your little "neck wrap" can be emphasized with a scoop neck top.

Salvatore Ferragamo Silk Scarves

Salvatore Ferragamo was an Italian shoe designer and became well known in the 1920s when he worked with many of the celebrities in Hollywood. Many film stars and celebrities around the world are still loyal to his company, which has evolved into a luxury goods empire spanning around the world.

Salvatore Ferragamo studied shoe making in Naples for a year then Ferragamo opened a small store in his parent’s home. In 1914, he emigrated to America, to live with one his brothers, a cowboy boot factory worker. Ferragamo worked briefly with his brother at the factory, then moved to California. It was there that Ferragamo found success, initially opening a shop for repair and made-to-measure shoes.

However, his reputation as ‘Shoemaker to the Stars’ only partially satisfied him. He could not fathom why his shoes pleased the eye yet hurt the foot, so he proceeded to study anatomy at the University of Southern California.

Ferragamo returned to Italy in 1927, after spending thirteen years in the United States. He settled in Florence and began to design shoes for the wealthiest and most powerful women of the century.

Some of the famous women who wore his shoes were Eva Peron and Marilyn Monroe; were all loyal to Ferragamo. In 1929, he opened a workshop in the Via Mannelli, concentrating his efforts on applying for patents for ornamental and utility models and some related inventions.

The business stumbled out of the 20’s and Ferragamo filed for bankruptcy in 1933 due to bad management and economic pressures. Ferragamo, nonetheless recovered, and expanded his operation during the 1950’s to a workforce of over 700 expert artisans that produced 350 pairs of hand-made shoes a day.

Salvatore Ferragamo died in 1960 at the age of 62, but his name lives on as an international company, which has expanded its operations to include luxury shoes, bags, eye wear, silk accessories, watches, perfumes and a ready-to-wear clothing line.

Nothing is more British than a genuine Burberry. Established in 1856, the company's founder Thomas Burberry focused on outdoors attire with with the intention of producing a product that was water-resistant yet maintaining a breathable fabric. In 1914 Burberry was commissioned by the War Office to design their officer's coats to suit the conditions of contemporary warfare, resulting in the name "trench coat". Its distinctive black tan, and red pattern known as haymarket check or the "Burberry classic check" was first used as a lining for the Burberry trench coat in 1924. Now a registered trademark, the classic check is widely used on umbrellas, scarves, and luggage. The tartan pattern has become one of its most widely copied trademarks. Burberry's trademark products are its fashionable handbags and exclusive fragrances.

Ralph Lauren staged an outstanding lavish runway show in the spring of 2008 which was based on classic lady-like looks straight out of the vintage movies. His show featured ruffle-hemmed gowns, sexy fishnets and oversize picture hats. Fashion Designer Gianni Versace was born in 1946 in Reggio Calabria, and tragically he was murdered on the 16th July, 1997. He has been one of the fashion industries top designers. Today the label is managed by Gianni Versace's brother Santo Versace and Gianni's sister Donatella Versace whom is the head of design. In 1978, Versace opened his first boutique in Milan's Via della Spiga, and soon after his Versace label popularity started to spread across the globe. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have become one of the leading designers in the fashion industry. Dolce studied fashion design in Sicily while Gabbana studied graphic design to create the perfect partnership when they combined their talents in 1982. In 1985, they showed their first women’s collection in Milan, were noted as being a promising new talent. One year later, they released their first collection, entitled - real woman. In the late 1980's when D&G expanded to New York, their label hit immediate popularity. In addition to their women’s clothing, D&G produce a large range of shoes, jeans, underwear and fragrances. Their signature designs include corset dresses, gangster pinstripes and sexy black suits, and are known for their sexy style. They describe their style as “sweet and sharp” and “New Millennium cool”.

The world famed fashion designer Emilio Pucci studied and political science and was a bomber pilot in WWII before finding his place in fashion design. His first designs were for the Reed College skiing team. Designing sporting gear became second nature to him as he was a talented sportsman, who swam, skied, fenced, played tennis and raced cars. In the winter 1948, Pucci's designs were photographed for the famous magazine Bazaar, and caught attention of many American manufacturers which wanted to produce them. He went on to open up a a haute couture house and produced a swimwear line in 1949, and moved on to bright and bold patterned silk scarves. Pucci's labels success lead him to create silk dresses where many celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe,Sophia Loren and Jackie Kennedy wore. It didn't end there, Pucci designed complete outfits for Braniff and Nasa between 1965 and 1977, and had a political career in addition.

After Emilio's death in 1992 his daughter, Laudomia Pucci, continued to design under the Pucci name. Laudomia became image director, and Louis Vuitton-Moet-Hennessy Group acquired 67% of Pucci. LVMH brought in major designers such as Christian Lacroix, Matthew Williamson, Peter Dundas, Stephan Janson and Julio Espada who have worked for the label. Pucci boutiques in the U.S. are located in New York, Las Vegas, Bal Harbour, Palm Beach, Beverly Hills, Boston, and South Coast Plaza.

Mila Schon was in her thirties when she made her entrance into the world of high fashion. This elegant lady had no sewing experience, but born from wealthy Italian aristocratic parents she knew very well what cutting edge style was and was not shopping and buying in Paris. With a small group of workers, she set up a workshop in Milan in 1958. It was in January 1965, an invitation from Giovan Giorgini, Mila Schön presented her first collection at Florence's Palazzo Pitti. Schon who rose to the top of fashion with use of double-faced fabric, geometric patterns, and monochromatic designs.

"I created clothes like I wanted them -- without lining, with the inside just like the outside; double-faced fabric gave me the idea of order and cleanliness," Schon once said. Schon died at 92, just days before Milan was set to pay homage to her 50 years in the fashion business. The Mila Schön Group has become an empire with boutiques all over the world.

Roberto Cavalli is known for his vibrantly colored prints, and animal prints have been a signature look since his first slow in the early 70's. Cavalli's artistic pursuits came about at the age of 17 when he enrolled at the Institute of Art of Florence. It was there where he first began to experiment with use of paint on textile fabrics. His signature style is bold colored prints and vibrant patterns. He gets his inspiration from nature as his tendency for animal prints and jungle and flower motifs are a constant theme in most of his collections. It is said that he travels throughout the world with a digital camera ready in hand, ready to capture a picture that he can transform into a new motif. Roberto Cavalli is a designer with timeless but dramatic pieces that flatter the female form. Roberto Cavalli is one of the most well-regarded fashion artists of his time.

Hermès "An Indian Winter" shot a very interesting photo advertising campaign through the French Alps which must have been very cold for the models. Hermès hired National Geographic photographer Eric Valli to shoot a theme that was to evoke an escape through the snowy mountains, featuring model Mariacarla Boscono. Hermès brings attention to their classic Hermès silk scarves with Asian-inspired prints, wool coats, accessories such as embroidered suede riding boots, the Hermès Jypsiere and the Taurillon Clemence bags.
